Germany

Our bike trip to Germany turned out to be a little disastrous.  I had a bad bike accident, and hurt my knee pretty badly. (still under ortho care 2 months later.)  The plan was to ride a mapped route from Heidelberg to Koblenz for a total of 120 miles.  We all rode the train the day after my accident, and then the last two days I rode a boat on the Rhine while the others rode bikes.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some of the pretty pictures I did manage to take in Germany.

Trip to Kentucky

We have been in Kentucky since early June, and I have been absent from my blog.  Shame on me!  It seems that since I opened a Facebook account, I post more frequently there.  I didn't take too many pictures this year on our drive, but will share a couple with you.

We like to stop in Fruita, Colorado and eat at this great little pizza place (and craft beer) called Hot Tomato.

Also in Fruita, and very near Hot Tomato, is an iron art piece called "MIke the Headless Chicken."  OK, it is a bizarre story, and unbelievably there is a festival too.

We had a nice visit with my sister, Becky, in Colorado Springs.

I've taken some pictures since we have been back, but they turned out a bit blurry so I'll post some pictures soon.

You see, I get to go on another European vacation - Germany (bike ride on the Rhine) and two weeks in Spain.  I will try my best to share some of the trip while we are still there, but definitely will do so when we return.

I hope you are all having a great summer.

Lily, Lily, Lily My Pretty Girl!

Lily, Lily, Lily My Pretty Girl!

I cooed those words to her for the last time on Monday.
She lost her 2 1/2 month battle with Lymphoma,
and we had to let her go Monday afternoon.
Saying goodbye after 14 years was difficult.

I am heart broken!

She spent her last night sleeping right next to me.
I'm not sure if I was comforting her,
or if she was comforting me.

On Monday she went out on the patio.
I put her in her favorite chair, and spent time holding her,
as well as petting her and talking sweet talk.

Lily was a constant companion to me.
She wanted to help with anything
I was doing.

After I put clean laundry away, she liked to ride
in the empty basket back to the laundry room.

She was always nearby when I sewed, and
loved sitting in this wicker chair.

She would sit outside any closed door, and
wait for me to come out.

She wanted me to open her pet door
first thing in the morning so she could
go out onto her patio.
And she obediently came into the house
when I wanted to close up everything at night.

If I took a nap, I'd say night, night, and she
came to lay by me every time.

She talked kitty talk to me when I talked to her.

I have a hole in my heart where this kitty used to be.

2016 Road 2 California Quilt Show and Goodies I Bought

My sister and I spent three days at the quilt show this year, and one of our long time friends was able to meet us there for the day.

The view out of our hotel window is of Mt. Baldy in the San Gabriel mountain range - we grew up with this view, and always love coming back to this area of California.

This is this years winning quilt.  Doesn't it look like you could just pull the pillows off the selves?

I'm not a quilter like my sister, but that doesn't mean that I don't find great things to buy from the vendors - here are a few treasures - new block print fabric, vintage and new trims and buttons as well as a new paisley block for printing and fabric paints (not pictured).
