2016 Road 2 California Quilt Show and Goodies I Bought

My sister and I spent three days at the quilt show this year, and one of our long time friends was able to meet us there for the day.

The view out of our hotel window is of Mt. Baldy in the San Gabriel mountain range - we grew up with this view, and always love coming back to this area of California.

This is this years winning quilt.  Doesn't it look like you could just pull the pillows off the selves?

I'm not a quilter like my sister, but that doesn't mean that I don't find great things to buy from the vendors - here are a few treasures - new block print fabric, vintage and new trims and buttons as well as a new paisley block for printing and fabric paints (not pictured).

Button Jar Buttons

I sorted through butons that my sister sent to me, and put some of the more interesting ones in this cute little jar that she also sent to me.

My sister sent a box of goodies to me the other day.  Here are some of the buttons - aren't they wonderful?  Sweet sister!

Vintage Button and 1927 Ephemera Tags

I made a few tags the other day that I covered with cut outs from a 1927 woman's magazine. Then I sewed vintage buttons to each one of the tags and topped them with a piece of vintage narrow rick rack to replace the string hanger that came attached to the tags. These were a lot of fun to make, and I think I will be making more of them out of some old ephemera that I have been collecting.

Sorting Buttons - First Pass

I have been sorting buttons and putting them into divided plastic boxes. I did have them in plastic bags, and that certainly wasn't good for them. I didn't think to take pictures until they were already in the boxes so most of the pictures are just a peek into the boxes. I say this is the first pass for the sorting because I will need to do some additional sorting to separate some of the mother of pearl, glass & porcelain. Still, it is far more organized than what I had before, and the buttons should stay nicer too.

The divided box to the left has a variety of larger buttons as well a a compartment for some old costume jewelry. The Indian is a lid that I have kept because the graphic is so nice.
