Vintage Photo Sunday

I haven't written a Vintage Photo Sunday post in a long time.  I have so many old photos, and like to share some of them with you.  Hope you like the ones I chose for today.

Blogoversary Giveaway

I have a blogoversary coming up real soon so I am having a giveaway.  Anyone who leaves a comment on this post will have a chance to win the little quiltie pictured here.  I will draw for a winner on Sunday, July 15 late in the evening.  So if you have not entered before Sunday, you still can enter that day.

I made this quiltie using one of my favorite photos. It is a 1920's photo of a group of women who are probably gathered for a class reunion. They are posing by playground equipment - a Giant Stride - or at least that is what we called it when we were children.  The piece measures 4" x 6" and is ready to hang.  The photo is printed onto white cotton, and the fabrics, trims and button are all vintage.  Good luck, and I hope you will enjoy it.

"Sarah" in Summer 2012 Sew Somerset

I am excited to share with you that I had a piece of my artwork published in the latest issue of Sew Somerset.  The wall hanging is titled "Sarah", and is on the upper left of the page.

Here is a link to my blog entry about Sarah where you can see the wall hanging up close, as well as read the story I created for her.  I used an original tin type photo in this mixed media piece.

Baby Birds

Baby birds are cute, but can they make a mess. When we got back to Kentucky this year, we discovered that our back porch was a nesting area. One nest still had babies But within a couple of days of our return, the parents nudged them out of the nest. I got this picture of them as they were getting the courage to fly. By early afternoon two had flown away, and I saw the last one leave while I was working outside. Now to clean up the poo.

Space Mountain?

This mountain in Colorado reminded me of Space Mountain in Disneyland. What do you think?

Oceanside, California

John and I went to Oceanside for a couple of days recently.  It was warm without being hot, and the beaches were almost empty.  I'll share a few pictures with you.  I had planned to share videos, but they won't load for som reason.

That is a swarm of bees on the side of the bike.  Poor guy was waiting for the county office to come and get the bees so he could get his bike and catch the last Metro Link home.  Wonder if he made it.

Recycled Rita's Booth in Country Roads Antiques

After our trip to Disneyland, we spent an afternoon in Old Town Orange.  I like to visit fellow blogger's antique booths when I get an opportunity.  Recycled Rita has a space in Country Roads Antique Mall in Old Towne Orange.  I loved your booth Karen, and it was so much fun to spend an afternoon shopping in the antique mall - even the guys had a great time looking around.

I found a treasure in Karen's booth - a very cute picture of a little boy that was taken in 1903.  Check back to see what I make using this little guy.

You are Always a Kid at Disneyland

We spent two days at Disneyland, and we had a great time.  The weather was cloudy and a little cooler, but it turned out to be a perfect day.

The Gibson Girl ice cream parlor and Candy Palace have been undergoing a renovation for a couple of months, and the grand reopening was on the second day of our visit.  Boy, I really like candy!  We met Rob, a Master Candy Maker, and he told us about the renovation.

A Weekend in Vegas

I had not been to Las Vegas in about fifteen years.  Several family members met there recently to help celebrate a birthday.  We stayed downtown at the Golden Nugget and had a great time.  Did I win a lot of money?  Of course not!

The downtown area has an overhead cover that runs along Freemont Street with a zip line running down the middle.  At night there are laser light shows to entertain the crowds.

Here is a video of the covered area and the zipline during the day:

And, here it is at night with the laser show and zip-liners:
