The Getty Center

My sister and I visited The Getty Center a couple of weeks ago. We like to go together each year to the Getty, but we had missed last year. It is fabulous both in architecture and in the art those beautiful buildings house.

Since I have taken numerous photographs of the buildings and gardens in past visits, we took just a few shots of us this time. It was a great sister day!

Fabric Cone Swap

I made this fabric cone for a swap with my Cloth Paper Studio group. It is the first one I've made. Our inspiration for this swap are the fabric cones made by Ruth Rae.

I machine quilted the rose fabric with a layer of felt inside. The outside of the cone is covered with glittery organza. Antique lace covers the outside and inside opening. I embellished the cone with vintage buttons, costume jewelry, a piece of sheet music and letter beads spelling out 'May'. Sequence, beads and shells are trapped in antique lace that are sewn above and below the sheet music.

It went out in the mail today, and I can't wait to see the cone I receive.

May Swap Your Stash Challenge

I created this small collage wall hanging with the stash I received from one of the group members for the May "Swap Your Stash Challenge". The 'button card' is a scanned image of a button card that is printed on white cotton. Everything else is from the stash that I received. This has been a great challenge for me because it forces me to create a piece incorporating as many of the items I receive from the group members, but limiting items from my own stash. I like to use photos or other images in my work and will limit my stash to them.

Wedding Anniversary - May 8th

We are celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary today. The years go by so very fast, and with those years came the gray hair, wrinkles and a few extra pounds. But when I look back to that day we were married, the time is erased because inside we remain the same.

I love you John, Happy Anniversary.

Bungalow Heaven Home Tour - Pasadena California

We attended the 19th annual Bungalow Heaven Home Tour in Pasadena at the end of April. This was about the fourth time we have gone on this tour, and it is great! The Craftsman style is a favorite for both of us. These homes were built in the early 1900s, and they have been lovingly restored. The homes in these pictures were from the neighborhood, but weren't the ones on the tour. At the time, I thought the lines of people in front of the houses would be a distraction in the photographs. In retrospect, I should have gotten at least one picture of a tour house. The Pasadena climate lends itself to lush landscaping, and many of the streets are shaded with mature Oak trees. The area is just a couple of blocks from the Rose Parade route, and also a short distance from the Gamble House. We always end up with a nice picnic in the neighborhood park. I like to use my picnic basket, vintage tablecloths and Melamine dishes - and of course, something good to eat.

Sisters Hanging Out

I snapped these pictures at different times when we girls got together. We like to play tourist and had a nice time at the Mission Inn in Riverside. Also pictured are Pomona and Claremont.
