I realize I haven't posted in a long time, but I've been busy since getting back to California. Really. Well sort of, kind of. OK, just a bad blogger.
Today I want to share an old photo with you. On Thanksgiving my friend gave me another box of old photos. Did I say how much I love old photos. This photo is of two young children, perhaps brother and sister. I don't have any idea of the date, but the clothing is unique and should give clues about when it was taken. The girls hair is done in long ringlets, and her shoes are tied with sashes. Do any of you have any ideas?

A Fellow Blogger's Antique Booth
On our trip back to California this fall we stopped to shop a little while at Merchant Square, an antique mall, in Chandler, AZ where a fellow blogger, Judy at My Artistic Side, has a booth. The mall is huge, and a really fun place to shop. Judy's booth is so cute, and I bought some small things to take home.

Painted Desert & Petrified Forest
Here are a few pictures from the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest for you to enjoy. They include pueblo ruins, petroglyphs, and petrified trees. (I have been using the Blogger iPhone app while traveling, so the pictures aren't appearing in the correct order.)

Old Town Albequerque
Here are a couple pictures from Old Town Albuquerque, NM. The beautiful old Mission is an active Parish. The weather is perfect this time of year, and we enjoyed a patio lunch.

Pinks
I saw a segment on a TV show tonight about Pinks hotdogs, and remembered a picture that I took earlier this year while waiting at a traffic light. ( I wasn't the one driving. ) Pinks is in Hollywood and very popular. We didn't eat there, but I see they do have veggie hotdogs - so maybe I will be able to convince my vegetarian sister to eat there the next time I visit her.

Rock City Barns
Barn sign paintings were a popular advertisement media in the past. Most everyone is familiar with the Mail Pouch Barns, but there was another popular barn advertisement - Rock City. Rock City is located in northern Georgia, not too far from Chattanooga, TN.
The three barns pictured here are located on 31 E in Kentucky. Before the interstate, this was a major north/south route, and the barn advertisements were designed to entice travelers to visit Rock City.
To those of you who read The Road, you'll recall the father and son saw these Rock City advertisements along the road they traveled. Since they ended up at the sea, this was a clue that they were traveling south, and were north of Georgia.
It is nice to see that some of these historical treasures are still standing. I have never visited Rock City, but think this may just be the year to do it.

William Morris Pillows
My sister, who sent all the wonderful buttons to me, purchased two yards of William Morris Designed fabric from the United Kingdom. She asked me if I would make pillows for her - of course I said yes. I made five pillows, and all have piping in the seams.: three 16" x 16", one 12" x 14", and one 14" x 14". I printed an image on fabric that I had scanned from an early 1920s magazine, and sewed it to the 14" pillow, and there is a vintage celluloid button attached to the lower left of the image. Here is a photo of all of them. I'm going to get them packaged for mailing tomorrow.

Antique Bird Cage
I really enjoy going to an auction. Kentucky has auctions rather than the estate sales we have in California. I went to an auction yesterday, and bought this amazing antique bird cage by Hendryx from the late 1800s or early 1900s. The wire is green, and the brass is tarnished. I must confess that part of me wants to get the Brasso out, but really don't think I should do that.

A Little Pillow Surprise
I received this pretty little pillow in the mail yesterday. It came straight from the EBay seller where my sister purchased it. The same sweet sister who sent the buttons.
I placed it on the seating area in the bedroom that I created using an antique iron/brass baby crib. I think it is perfect for this spot.

Fabric Collage Greeting Cards
I like to send handmade cards to family and friends. I made three of them a couple days ago. I used bits of vintage fabric, lace, buttons and images printed on fabric. Each collage is stitched to the front of a card, and vintage sheet music is adhered to the inside of the card to cover the stitches. I left a blank page for the handwritten message.
